HYGIENIC, MEDICAL AND ECOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF USE OF CHLORINE DIOXIDE AS WATER DISINFECTANT (THE MONOGRAPHY ANNOUNCEMENT)

The analysis of hygienic, medical and ecological aspects of chlorine dioxide used as water disinfectant is given in the work presented. Chlorine dioxide provides an epidemic safety of drinking water due to a high viricidal, bactericidal and mycocidal effectiveness and CDO is not toxic either in the context of the influence on the laboratory animals organisms or concerning hydrobionts when dumping disinfected waste waters is shown.

DEACTIVATION OF BIOCIDES IN INDUSTRIAL WATER TREATMENT

Industrial biocides are used for microbial control in a variety of industrial water systems including, cooling, paper, oilfield, and membrane applications. Biocide treatment programs are typically designed to provide optimal results based on environmental conditions, regulatory needs, efficacy, and cost. An important area of concern relating to biocide use is discharge of the treated effluent (ex., blowdown) into waste treatment systems or natural waters. Regulatory requirements also impact the amount of biocide that may be released. In many cases, the biocide must be effectively deactivated or neutralized prior to discharge of the effluent. This paper will provide a review of the specific methods for deactivating the various oxidizing and non-oxidizing biocides commonly used today. Examples of lab and field data will be presented.

The analysis of hygienic, medical and ecological aspects of chlorine used as water disinfectant is given in the work presented. A comparative estimation of risks at the use of contaminated by pathogenic microorganisms water and the same water containing chlorination by-products  proves that epidemic safety should predominate at disinfection.

CURRENT TECHNOLOGY FOR WASTER WATERS SLUDGE TREATMENT AND REDUCTION

This article describes one of the modern technologies for processing and reduction of sewage sludge. Sludge in wastewater treatment plants (raw and excess activated sludge, etc.) should be treated, providing opportunity to its disposal or storage and to minimize its impact on the environment. The proposed method of reducing the sediment, namely activated sludge (which provides a decrease of 40-80%) can be embedded directly into the technology of sewage treatment, rather than in processing precipitation, which is very important and promising process.

COMBINED METHODS FOR WATER PURIFICATION AND DISINFECTION. THE THIRD MESSAGE: COMBINED APPLICATION OF CHLORINE WITH UVI OR OZONE

The review of data of the literature concerning the combined application of chlorine with ultraviolet irradiation (UVI) or ozone is presented. The analysis has shown, that efficiency of such combination in essential degree depends on a number of conditions which can be divided on two groups: the first – an optimality combination of certain doses for UVI and chlorine; the second – difference of influence of рН and temperatures for ozone and chlorine on efficiency of their combination with UVI.
